The One About Music

This is actually from two Fridays ago (4/9/10), I just hadn’t gotten around to typing it until now.

Ramble Session: As I’m sitting here in front of the computer watching the “If I Can Dream” live stream of Alex Lambert’s vocal lesson, I feel like I am actually there learning these skills that Alex is learning. They’re talking about how allergies affect the voice and the difference between clearing your throat and swallowing and how swallowing won’t be as damaging for the vocal chords... Anyway, I decided to write because A) I haven’t written a post in a while and B) I don’t want to look like I’m just sitting here doing nothing.

I did get the inspiration for this topic of music from listening to this vocal lesson and also because I am thoroughly enjoying listening to Alex Lambert’s music.
The One About...: I’m not going to get into every aspect of music because obviously there is A LOT to say but how about we focus on how music is used as an escape and what parts of music I find enjoyable.

I love music more than I can explain. The things I focus on when I listen to songs are:
1st: The general sound of it. Sometimes I like the Pop sound but nice acoustic or piano is good sometimes too. (It’s not just those though, they’re just examples.)
2nd: The singer’s voice. Pop doesn’t count in this instance, neither does rap. Those are not good voices. I don’t even know if pop singers can even really sing! The types of voices I like come from many different places. That is one reason why I like American Idol. I love listening to so many different types of voices. In fact, Alex Lambert’s voice is what I love most about him. haha!!
3rd: The story behind the song. I usually find this in country songs since they’re all about stories. Again, pop doesn’t really count here because if there even is a story behind the song, it’s either pointless or the same as plenty of other songs. Basically, I only like pop at school dances or for when I feel like listening to something fun and upbeat.

I listen to music all of the time; when I’m sad or happy. It does put me in a better mood so therefore it is my ultimate escape. I like watching TV and stuff, but you know how a drama show will make you sad or angry? Yeah, I don’t want to escape to sadness. Music can have that effect on you too, yes, but it won’t put you in as much of a funk as TV would. You know what I mean?

Ok, this vocal lesson is really fascinating. The guy is teaching Alex breathing exercises. Haha, I probably sound crazy and like a creeper for actually watching this and enjoying it, but this it is actually really interesting and informational, even if you aren’t a singer. Just trust me on this! haha.

TV Talk: I watched Idol these past few weeks. Casey James, the tall, long blonde-haired guy with a country sound, is my new favorite!
This week was actually good. I am now able to sit back and just enjoy it without the stress of keeping my favorites in (but I don’t know how long this stress free thing will last if my love for Casey grows! haha). I’ve also watched Dancing with The Stars, and Evan Lysacek and Niecy Nash are my favorites. Modern Family is still a hilarious show!! I highly recommend it!  I’ve really been mostly watching “If I Can Dream” on ificandream.com, which I also recommend because it has a very positive, funny, good looking cast of people on it. I’ll make a post about it someday!!

Story of the Day: On “If I Can Dream” there are Twitter sessions every night where the artists in the house read off people’s tweets and answer the questions or respond to the comments. It is really cool. I do these Twitter sessions as often as possible and they read my tweets pretty much every time. I’ll get more specific with what they said in a later blog about If I Can Dream, but yeah... It is really cool when these people, who are trying to become famous, are actually communicating with you on some level. It means so much more to me that these people, who aren’t really famous yet, are the ones doing these Twitter session and talking to me because if it were someone who’s already big, it wouldn’t mean as much to them when you say you support them as it would mean to aspiring artists, therefore it wouldn’t mean as much to me.

While I was typing this up, I had the “If I Can Dream” live feed on again and it was showing Ben (Ben Elliott, an aspiring actor) and Alex having a little jam session on an electric and an acoustic guitar, no singing. It sounded really good actually, and I liked it. Very relaxing!! haha  And, I as put my finishing touches on this (2 days later, haha.  I don't know why this is such a long process for me!!), Alex is having a writing session and is playing more music.  I just keep happening to watch this at the right times!!  haha
